Privacy policy

Short version: you never have to give us your name or email, there are no accounts, and we don't set tracking cookies (the NAVER map and Cloudflare's spam check may use their own — see 4 and 6).

1. Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not fingerprint you. It records the page, the referring site, browser and device type, and the country (derived from your IP address, which is not stored). We only see totals, never individual visitors. We also count, as daily totals, which buttons and outside links are used (for example “Kakao Map route” or an app store) — only the label, nothing about you.

2. Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, under its own privacy policy.

3. Stored in your browser

We set no cookies. A few things are saved in your browser (localStorage) only so the site works the way you left it: day/night mode, the language you picked, which tab you chose (e.g. visiting / living here), ticked checklist items, places you saved with ♥, and whether you closed the "add to home screen" note. To work offline, the site also keeps copies of key pages in your browser's cache. None of this leaves your device. You can clear it any time in your browser's site data settings. If you tap "Nearest area to me" on the food map, your browser asks for your location; it is used on your device only to pick the closest area and is never sent to us.

4. Maps

When you scroll to a map, it loads from NAVER Maps. Your browser then connects to NAVER, which receives your IP address and may use cookies under its own policy. Maps that you never scroll to are not loaded.

5. Links to other sites

We link to NAVER Map, official tourism pages, booking sites and apps. Once you leave this site, the other site's privacy policy applies.

6. Tips you share

If you post a tip, we store the text, the nickname you chose (optional), the page and language, and the time. To block spam we keep a one-way hash of your IP address for 30 days, then delete it. Before saving, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're not a bot. Tips are published only after we review them. To have a tip removed, contact us. If you tap what a restaurant had (for example “English menu”), we store only the place, that item and the time, with the same 30-day IP hash so each person counts once; the counts are shown on the food map.

7. Messages you send us

If you use the contact form, we store your message, the topic you picked, your email address if you give one, the language, the page you came from and the time. We use them only to read and answer your message. To block spam we keep a one-way hash of your IP address for 30 days, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're not a bot. Messages are deleted within one year, or sooner if you ask.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR (EU), Korea's Personal Information Protection Act and similar laws, you can ask what data about you we hold, and ask us to correct or delete it, or object to its use. Because we don't collect data that identifies you, there is normally nothing to hand over — but you can always contact us. EU residents may also complain to their data protection authority.

9. Children

The site is a travel guide for a general audience and does not knowingly collect any data from children.

10. Data stored abroad

Busan 101 runs on Cloudflare, Inc. (USA). When you send a message or a tip, it is stored on Cloudflare's servers over an encrypted connection: your message or tip, the email or nickname you chose to give, and a one-way hash of your IP address. Page-view statistics are counted there too. Purpose: hosting the site, storing what you send, blocking spam and counting visits. How long: as in sections 6, 7 and 11. If you don't want this, don't use the forms — the rest of the site works without sending us anything, and you can ask us to delete what you sent.

11. How long we keep data and how we delete it

Messages: one year, then deleted automatically. IP hashes: 30 days. Published tips: while they're on the site, or until you ask us to remove them; declined tips: 30 days. Deleted data is erased from the database for good. Only the site team can open the admin page (protected by a secret key), every connection is encrypted, and IP addresses are stored only as salted one-way hashes.

12. Privacy contact and where to get help

Privacy officer: Busan 101 team — use the contact form or the email below. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact (in Korean, some in English): Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee 1833-6972 (kopico.go.kr), Personal Information Infringement Report Center 118 (privacy.kisa.or.kr), Supreme Prosecutors' Office cybercrime 1301, Korean National Police Agency cyber bureau 182. EU residents can also contact their data protection authority.

13. Changes

If we add anything else that collects personal data — for example a newsletter or accounts — we will update this page first and ask for consent where the law requires it.
